The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation is a national philanthropic organization founded in 1954 by the late media entrepreneur for whom it is named. Reynolds was the founder and principal owner of the Donrey Media Group, which he created in 1940 with the purchase of the Okmulgee Daily (OK) Times and the Soutwestern (AR) Times Record. During Mr. Reynolds' lifetime, he owned and operated over 70 businesses, the majority of which were in the communications/media field. These holdings were primarily in the field of newspapers, outdoor advertising, and cable television companies. Headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Donald. W. Reynolds Foundation is one of the largest private foundations in the United States. Since 1999, the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation has awarded grants totaling $102 million dollars for the establishment of Reynolds Centers at four institutions – The Johns Hopkins University, Harvard Medical School, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and Stanford University. In 2007, Johns Hopkins was granted a three year renewal of $12 million to further the study of Sudden Cardiac Death and progress to clinical applications of translational research begun in the first, 4 year program.
